Cuale, from where our river in Vallarta gets its name, is a small mining
town nestled in a valley and quite remote. The mine is all but played
out now and there is a new sawmill to provide employment. There's also
the ruin of a smaller mine nearby, see below right. Cuale is not visited
by tourists, there are no hotels but accommodation can be found if you
know where to look.
There are only a few telephones in the whole town. There are many lovely spots in the valley with waterfalls
and horses are probably available.
Getting there:
There's a bus which runs every other day,
from Colonia Buenos Aires (church square). You can also drive there in about 2.5-3 hours.
Just go to Paso Ancho and keep going on that road. This is probable best
done in the dry season.
No hotels, 10 years ago I rented a room from Lydia, who owns a Abarrotes store there, but now you can get a room from Iztak "Mono" - contact us for more information.
